These guidelines are provided for law enforcement and government officials seeking user account information from EpikChat.

We accept service of legal process, general questions, or requests for emergency assistance from law enforcement electronically. In order to expedite processing please make sure your request is sent from your agency email address, and contains your full name, department, title, and telephone number.

Data retention and availability

Generally, we are able to retrieve certain chat messages sent by users for up to 30 days. Our systems do not have the ability to store any streaming video content. When provided with a valid legal process we will search for and disclose data that is specified with particularity in an appropriate form of legal process and which we are reasonably able to locate and retrieve. We do not retain data for law enforcement purposes unless we receive a valid preservation request.

Legal process requirements

EpikChat discloses account records solely in accordance with our Terms of Service, the Stored Communications Act, 18 U.S.C. §2701, and other applicable laws. We only disclose certain user data to law enforcement only in response to specific types of legal process, including subpoenas, court orders, and search warrants. Requests must be specific to an individual user/room, time-frame, and type of information requested. All requests are reviewed to ensure they have a valid legal basis. If they do, we will comply by providing data responsive to the request, we may also reject or challenge a request that does not have a valid legal basis, is unclear, inappropriate, or overly broad.
